Do I need dive insurance?
If you are SCUBA diving, you need dive insurance. It’s really that simple.
Being in a SCUBA diving capital, Florida Keys dive operations are exposed to an extremely large volume of divers. Every year we monitor the number of accidents in the 100 mile chain from Key Largo to Key West. The accidents are common and even increasing.
Due to this, we have made the decision to require all divers booked through our dive shop to have DAN Insurance or equivalent.
To save time, please sign up prior to your arrival to the dive shop for check-in.
On a side note, if you are newly certified and are within your first 10 dives, we highly recommend you book a Dive Guide / Divemaster when booking your dives with us or any dive operators.
Not only are they there to show you the fantastic underwater world and the special features of each dive site, they are trained to help you in emergency situations. Or, simply to prevent you from getting into emergency situations. Some situations can seem as trivial as not inflating your BCD when entering the water to mask flooding at depth. Once you realize the way divers can react, or not react for that matter, the Divemaster is there for quick reaction to help you from what would seem to be an inconvenient event to turning into a fatal situation.
Key Largo Dive Center Students
Our students will be enrolled with DAN for the length of their course(s) with a complimentary policy. Once your course is completed, you will have the opportunity to continue your policy.
Primary Medical Insurance
Your primary medical insurance may exclude SCUBA diving as a hazardous recreational activity and/or may not provide coverage when you are traveling out of the country. If it does provide coverage, it may pay only a minimal amount for chamber treatments. There may be large out-of-pocket payments for deductibles and co-pays. These alone can total thousands of dollars.
Key Largo Dive Center Travel Club
Our travel club members are no strangers to dive insurance. Many resorts we book through require DAN Insurance or equivalent. By making the decision for all Key Largo Dive Center divers to have dive insurance, this streamlines the process when traveling to our dive adventure destinations.
Emergency Dive Tags
We now offer Emergency Dive Tags.
Dive Professionals and First Responders will have immediate access to your vital information. 2 tags are included, along with long and short “break away” chains, as well as rubber silencers. We recommend wearing one around your neck and the other attached to your BCD. The tag attached to your BCD will be visible at all times. If you are evacuated, the tag around your neck will travel with you. Most of the time your gear will be left behind. The tag attached to your BCD will be available to the dive operation for continued communication with DAN, Medical Facilities, Emergency Contacts, etc..
These tags are an inexpensive way to ensure DAN is contacted quickly with all of your vital information.
They are $15 + Shipping. Multiple sets can be ordered with only one shipping charge. Avoid the shipping charge by ordering them in advance and pick them up at the shop when you arrive for your dives.
Please allow up to 2 weeks for them to be made and then shipped out to you. Order them ahead of any dive trips you have planned.
If you are traveling to one of our dive adventure destinations, we can have them made and we will deliver them to you.
Call the dive shop at (305) 451-5844 for more information and to order.
